Mongeet – The Soul Songs Festival
Since 2022, I have been an active volunteer with Mongeet – The Soul Songs, a unique cultural movement founded by actor Adil Hussain and Kaushik Nath under the Raul Kaushik Nath Foundation. Held annually from January 12 in Majuli, Sadiya, and Guwahati, Mongeet turns these spaces into vibrant classrooms for music, poetry, art, craft, food, and indigenous traditions.
Over the years, I’ve worked across all aspects of the festival—as a laborer, artist, artist coordinator, and all-round support. It’s more than just a festival; it’s like home—where we live, work, learn, and celebrate together, especially during the festive time of Bihu.
Mongeet has grown into a multi-dimensional platform with several thematic extensions:
MonTulika – for painting and visual art
MonMritika – for sculpture
MonKobita – for poetry and spoken word
Aharor Akholi – for culinary arts, traditional ingredients, and techniques
MonStreet – for contemporary music and dance
MonMolhar – for Indian classical music and dance
Xotful – children’s workshops in performing arts
Mako & Kako – focused on handloom and traditional weaving practices
The festival has brought together incredible artists like Papon, Shankuraj, Ankita Phukan, and many others from across the country. Being a part of Mongeet has been a deeply enriching journey—personally, artistically, and culturally.
